The Philippines lags behind the United Nations' targets to cut poverty by 2015, with the number of poor Filipinos on the rise, officials said Wednesday. An official from the Philippine National Economic Development Authority said while data was not yet available, the global economic crisis and natural calamities such as recent devastating floods that hit the capital, Manila, may have further increased the ranks of the poor.
