UNFPA has started its new five-year 9th Country Programme (9CP) 2024-2028. The 9CP supports the Philippines’ efforts to end preventable maternal deaths. To fast-track progress on achieving this transformative goal, UNFPA integrates the following into its Country Programme's strategic pathways: reducing adolescent pregnancies, addressing unmet need for family planning, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices.
The 9CP is aligned with the strategic priorities of the:
- United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2024-2028,
- International Conference on Population and Development - Programme of Action,
- Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028,
- AmBisyon Natin 2040 and other national and international commitments.
What we want to achieve by 2028:
- Lower the number of women dying from pregnancy-related causes (per 100,000 live births) by more than half (from 144 in 2020 to 74 in 2028) to support the country in achieving its SDG target by 2030;
- Reduce the percentage of women & girls aged 15 years & older subjected to physical, sexual, or psychological violence by a partner (from 14.7% in 2017 to 10.6% in 2028);
- Reduce the adolescent birth rate among women aged 15-19 from 25 (per 1,000 live births) in 2022 to 19 in 2028;
- Increase the proportion (from 43% in 2017 to 100% in 2028) of local disaster risk reduction and management plans which integrate SRH (including MISP) and GBV response especially for vulnerable populations.
