Hiring Office: UNFPA Country Office – Manila 

Job title: Intern, Social Media Communications

Location: Office-based, Mandaluyong City

Full/Part-time: Full-time (approximately 40 hours per week)

Duration: 4 to 6 months 

The Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Media & Communications Analyst, the intern will support the Philippine Country Office in the areas of strategic communications and partnership of UNFPA Philippines Country Office.

A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing her/his skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate.

The intern will be responsible for:

  • Supporting social media monitoring for the UNFPA Philippines Country Office. This involves scanning social media posts;
  • Helping produce visual communication materials (photos, graphics, videos, etc.) in support of UNFPA Philippines’ activities;
  • Reviewing on a daily basis, the contents of the UNFPA social media pages (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter);
  • Encoding social media and website analytics;
  • Helping draft social media reports;
  • Drafting written material related to communications work such as social media posts and articles;
  • Support UNFPA Philippines CO in the development and execution of the UNFPA Philippines long-term communication plan ;
  • Providing support to increase UNFPA Philippines followers on social media such as pitching new content to ensure that the pages are relevant, updated and attractive;
  • Assist in organizing events supported by the communications officer;
  • Support editing and formatting of documents and assist with administrative duties including correspondence to internal and external partners, etc.;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements: 

  • Applicants to UNFPA’s internship programme must at the time of application meet the following requirements:
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) on Communication, Marketing, Development Studies, International Relations or other related courses; or have recently graduated from with a university degree;
  • Have experience in development and/or implementation of a long-term communication plan of an organization, or as worked in media (campus publication, digital or traditional) or volunteered/interned for a development agency;
  • Fluency in English;
  • Strong analytical and writing skills;
  • Strong visual communication skills and experience in graphic design;
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.

Learning Elements:

  • Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern will gain the following knowledge assets:
  • Increased understanding of the UNFPA and the Programme Division within UNFPA;
  • Understand the UNFPA mandate and policies, including regional set-up;
  • Understand UNFPA programme design and delivery mechanisms;
  • Understand the dynamics of operational and programme support and communications to the field, and at the level of HQ;
  • Learn UN technical language, working procedures, and coordination mechanisms;
  • Understand social media analytics and produce related reports;
  • Network with UN colleagues; and
  • Work experience as a team member in a multicultural setting.

Financial Aspects:

Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. The costs associated with an intern's participation in the programme must be assumed either by the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students, or by the students themselves, who will have to meet living expenses as well as make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and other requirements. However, they will receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, if not financially supported by any institution or programme. The amount of the stipend varies according to the duty station. In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins.
