Background: 

Super Typhoon Rai (Category 5) made its first landfall in the Philippines in the province of Surigao del Norte on 16 December 2021, bringing about maximum sustained winds of 195 kph and gustiness of 260 kph, making eight more succeeding landfalls and leaving a trail of devastation in different provinces mostly in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Super Typhoon Rai is the strongest storm to hit Mindanao in 10 years and the 3rd ever strongest recorded storm in the Northern Hemisphere. According to the Humanitarian Needs and Priorities (HNP) report launched by the Philippine Government and the United Nations on 24 December 2021, the major highlights of the super typhoon’s impact are the following:

  • 16 million people affected across 6 regions
  • 652,000 displaced people, of whom 444,000 are in evacuation centers while 240,000 are outside evacuation centers
  • 177 deaths to date
  • Most impacted provinces include Agusan del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Leyte and Southern Leyte. On 20 December 2021, the Government of the Philippines declared a state of calamity in Regions IV-B, VI, VII, VIII, X (Northern Mindanao) and XIII for a period of one year.

Job Purpose:
Under the overall supervision of the International Operations manager and the direct supervision of the Inventory Assistant, the Warehouse Assistant will provide support to the country office in inventory management ensuring that all inventory kept in the warehouse is properly received and documented;  stored for easy retrieval; records kept for ease of  reference.  The warehouse assistant will also package, scan, and prepare orders for delivery. The ideal candidate is comfortable working on their feet, focused on meeting quotas, and experienced in inventory software and databases. The warehouse assistant may also drive, so a candidate with experience and a valid driver's license is preferred.

As Warehouse Assistant he/she will 

  • Prepare documentation and inventory for verification
  • Assists office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining stores when required.  Assists in the mailing and distribution of newsletters and publications and arranges to pay office telephone and other bills, as required.
  • Process inventory for delivery
  • Sort, organize and store inventory in the proper location
  • Package items and label correctly
  • Scan delivered items and ensure quality
  • Report damaged or missing inventory to supervisors
  • Stack and organize large bulk items
  • Oversee the removal of inventory from trucks or shipping and delivery to proper location
  • Update logs and documentation for inventory processing
  • Ensure workspace is free of debris and remove safety hazards from aisles
  • Prepare documentation and inventory for verification
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Representative or by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience 

Education:  

  • Completed secondary level education required. First level university degree in Business Administration, Information Management, Transport or other related field is desirable.

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • At least 5 years’ experience in providing administrative and/or logistic support to a development project. Experience in working in Humanitarian Project is desirable. 
  • Prior experience with development and Humanitarian assistance would be desirable, especially the UN
  • Knowledge and passion about UN/UNFPA agenda and mandated areas of work
  • Valid driver’s license is preferred 

Languages:
