The Position:

Under the direct supervision of the HIV Programme Analyst, the intern will support the HIV Programme in the areas of coordination and liaison, content development, and advisory on youth issues, at the country level.

A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern’s enhanced skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate.

In the area of HIV response, UNFPA is the lead agency in the UN for HIV prevention, and empowering women, girls, and young people to protect themselves from HIV, and access essential ASRH services.

You would be responsible for:

The overall work will be with the HIV Programme, which is lodged within the Youth Programme of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Team. The intern will: 

  1. Coordinate and liaise with partners in organizing meetings, consultations and workshops on the following:
  1. Development of the HIV Combination Prevention Strategy for key populations, to include young people and female sex workers.
  2. Provision of livelihood opportunities for female sex workers affected by the economic impact of COVID-19
  1. Support the development and popularization of social media content, including the provision of inputs in the development of HIV videos and updating of the rh-care.info platform, including through the migration of information from existing websites and repositories.
  2. Participate in internal UNFPA meetings and contribute to preparing briefs and reports as necessary.
  3. Participate in the preparation of learning sessions (webinars) and related skill development initiatives.
  4. Support to editing and formatting of documents and assist with administrative duties including correspondence to internal and external partners, etc.
  5. Perform other duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled, with at least three years of Bachelor’s degree completed
  • Some experience in working with civil society or academic organizations, including in volunteer capacity. 
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of other languages an asset. 
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with team members from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern will gain the following knowledge assets:

  1. Enhanced understanding of the UNFPA and the HIV Programme within UNFPA
  2. Enhanced understanding of the UNFPA mandate and policies
  3. Enhanced understanding of UNFPA programme design and delivery mechanisms
  4. Knowledge of UN technical language, working procedures, and coordination mechanisms 
  5. Knowledge of UNFPA’s HIV programme and its contribution to the national response to HIV
  6. Work experience as a team member in a multicultural setting
