Education, Earnings and Health Effects of Teenage Pregnancy in the Philippines

This paper examines the effect of teenage pregnancy (early childbearing) on education and lifetime earnings using data from national surveys.
It finds that the discounted lifetime wage earnings foregone by a cohort of teenage women 18-19 years resulting from early childbearing is estimated between 24 billion pesos and 42 billion pesos with mean of 33 billion pesos, representing from 0.8% to 1.4% of GDP with mean of 1.1%.
